“It Won\u27t Work Here”: Implementing a Teacher Development Program at an Offshore Campus

Set within the rapidly developing context of transnational higher education, this presentation looks at the implementation of a teacher development program at the Middle Eastern campus of a western university. The presentation incorporates research into teachers\u27 conceptions of teaching, and shows how it was used to adapt and remodel the program. Faculty and students at the Middle Eastern campus represent over 90 countries, thus this presentation will focus specifically on the cultural and educational challenges faced when implementing the teacher development program at the offshore campus. The presentation will refer to my own experiences as the local coordinator of the program for over five years, and will be based on participant feedback set within the wider context of the cultural implications of this type of transnational education
